France's Macron threatens rare rebuke of USA at summit

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced that Trump would be represented by Everett Eissenstat for the last sessions. Mr. Trump replied, in reference to the capture of Washington during the War of 1812.

The two leaders offered that olive branch to Trump on Thursday ahead of his arrival at the G7 summit in Quebec on Friday, where disagreements on trade will be front and centre.

President Donald Trump speaks to reporters before leaving the White House on June 8 to attend the G7 Summit in Charlevoix, Quebec, Canada. In a tweet the next morning, he mused about shutting Canadian wood products out of America.

Trump has spent much of this year engaged in escalating trade wars with countries including USA allies Canada, Mexico, and members of the EU. "Look forward to seeing them tomorrow". Think the United Nations, the World Bank and the Group of 20, which brings together leaders of the world's biggest economies.

The G-7 became the G-8 in 1997, when Russian Federation became a member along with Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, the United States, France and Japan.

Special counsel Robert Mueller is now investigating whether associates of Mr Trump's presidential campaign colluded with Russian Federation in a bid to sway the 2016 election.

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer criticized the Republican president's leadership. "Putin is probably going "I wish Hillary won".

Donald Tusk, the former Polish leader attending as president of the European Council, saw the call for Russia's return as part of a raft of unilateral measures imposed by Trump that have driven Washington apart from United States allies.

"All of these countries have been taking advantage of the United States on trade", he said before flying out.

New indictment filed against Paul Manafort
In addition to the FARA charge, Manafort stands accused of tax fraud, bank fraud, and conspiracy against the United States. Perhaps more important is that an alleged line from the Russian government to the Trump campaign could be getting clearer.

G7 chiefs have largely praised Trump for his efforts to stabilize the Korean peninsula, but they are unhappy he pulled out of an global agreement to limit Iran's nuclear ambitions. Something tells me that if Mar-a-Lago was sacked Trump would know exactly who was responsible. "Maybe, but nobody is forever", he told a news conference flanked by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

"Tensions are mounting everywhere", the French president warned.

And he promised a "frank and direct discussion" with Trump in Canada.

The reference itself is not entirely historically accurate. While the war was largely fought over control of Canada, which was then a British colony, the August, 1814, attack on Washington itself was carried out by British regulars and marines rather than colonial militia.

The White House was, in fact, burned down by British colonial forces in August 1814 in response to an USA attack on York, Ontario, a year earlier.

Trump does not intend to withdraw from NAFTA, National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow said on "Fox & Friends".

European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker and EU president Donald Tusk will also attend, the French leader said. It was always an awkward fit, however, not just because of the rampant corruption in post-Soviet Russia and the fact that unlike the other democracies it has been ruled by a strongman for the past 18 years, but also because Russia is neither an ally of the other countries nor an important economic power.

"It's important to differentiate between relations between leaders, and relations between communities, government organizations, businesses and citizens", she wrote in an e-mail.
